Stories of the Land: Exploring Cherokee History and Its Cultural Legacy in Western North Carolina  (Local Events)

  At the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society March meeting, Shannon Swimmer, Director of the Western Carolina University Cherokee Center, will discuss Cherokee history and genealogy issues involving Native Americans.   Ms. Swimmer’s mother was responsible for the tribe’s genealogical initiatives for the past 16 years.
The Swimmer family are native Cherokee and have long been involved with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.   Shannon has a law degree from Kansas University and a masters’ degree from WCU. 
Registration is required. There is no charge to attend. If you are unable to attend, you may register to receive a link to the recording which is sent 24 hours after the program.
